We support people to thrive by encouraging independence

End of Year CEO Update

2017 has been a big year for Kira Community Services.

We’re proud that our Kira family continues to grow as we focus on helping people experience services meaningful to them. We’re also thankful to our Kira Council, whom have doubled in number this year, embracing our ethos of building meaningful experiences “with you…for you”.

A successful independent evaluation by the Disability Services Commission has validated our culture of genuine dedication to quality services and member outcomes. Our supported accommodation, community access and respite services have also had an amazing year of delivering meaningful services!

2017 has resulted in a growing footprint in the far north of our city.

So much so, we’ve finally acknowledged that we’ve overgrown our humble office and our Board have invested in a new site.

Our new office will be located at the Northgate Currumbine complex on the corner of Delamere and Shenton Avenues.

This new office will house our ‘back of house’ team, staff hot desks for our increasingly mobile workforce, new training rooms, as well as an accessible commercial kitchen for our members. Staff will work across both sites with the focus of improving local member experience and connection to our local community. We are grateful to Lotterywest for a recent grant to complement this investment.

We do not want to provide cookie cutter service offerings premised on the paradigm of the past.

In 2018, we will pivot towards a greater focus on getting to know our members better so that individuals increase their control over how they use their supports according to what a meaningful life is to them.

As such, Kira Community Services have targeted our investment to focus on contemporary systems and practices. This is imperative as we maintain our momentum for the NDIS roll out in Perth’s Northern Corridor. We have restructured and we aim to have a wider spread of front line Coordinators to advocate for individuals and our families through the transition.

Our focus is simple: supporting families to have greater control to achieve their hopes and dreams.

Walking with you on your journey is what we’re most grateful for and celebrating with you each milestone is our what gets us excited each day.

I look forward to sharing more stories with you in 2018. My best wishes also for a joyful and safe festive season.

Vik Jeyakumar
Chief Executive Officer
